VESTABURG’S BALL MOVEMENT AND DEFENSIVE ENERGY OVERWHELM MERRILL IN 70–22 WIN December 4, 2025 — Vestaburg, MI The Vestaburg Wolverines put together one of their most complete performances of the season Thursday night, rolling past Merrill 70–22 behind relentless defensive pressure, unselfish ball movement, and contributions from across the roster. From the opening tip, Vestaburg played at a pace Merrill struggled to match. The Wolverines shared the ball with precision—recording 25 assists on 28 made field goals—and their activity on defense fueled transition scoring throughout the night. Ball Movement Keys Early Surge Vestaburg’s offense was at its best in the first half, erupting for 29 first-quarter points and stretching the lead to 47–11 by halftime. Crisp passing consistently turned good shots into great ones, with shooters spaced and cutting effectively behind Merrill’s defense. The Wolverines shot an efficient 47.5% from the field, including 10 made threes, and posted an impressive 1.29 points per possession. Eight different players scored, and four reached double figures, showing the balance that has become a trademark of this year’s squad. Defensive Energy Sets the Tone While the offense lit up the scoreboard, it was Vestaburg’s defensive intensity that dictated the game. The Wolverines swarmed passing lanes and applied pressure that resulted in a staggering 28 Merrill turnovers. Vestaburg turned those mistakes into 43 points off turnovers and held Merrill to just 0.43 points per possession. The team collected 18 deflections and 15 steals, cutting off drives and forcing rushed decisions throughout all four quarters. Standout Performances Lucas Warczinsky led the Wolverines with 16 points and stuffed the stat sheet with 6 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals, putting together one of the most complete games of the night. Kofee Arntz delivered an ultra-efficient 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting, along with strong work on the glass. Brehm Warczinsky added 14 points, knocking down four threes and providing steady perimeter play. Jansen Scholer filled the stat sheet with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Vestaburg’s bench also contributed valuable minutes, maintaining tempo and defensive pressure deep into the rotation. A Special Moment: Conner Vowell’s First Varsity Points The highlight of the night’s closing moments came when Conner Vowell scored the first two varsity points of his career. With the game winding down, Vowell found an opening inside, finishing at the rim as the bench erupted. It was a fitting cap to a night where Vestaburg’s teamwork and spirit were on full display—every player contributing, supporting one another, and celebrating each success. Looking Ahead With the decisive 70–22 victory, Vestaburg moves to 2–0 on the season and continues to build early momentum. The Wolverines will look to carry their defensive intensity and ball-sharing identity into their next matchup as they work toward another strong campaign.
