The Vestaburg girls' varsity basketball team turned in a high-effort performance Tuesday night, playing with passion, toughness, and togetherness in a hard-fought 37–28 loss to the Fulton Pirates. Vestaburg came out strong and confident, setting the tone early with aggressive defense and smart ball movement to take a 9–4 lead after the first quarter. The Wolverines continued to battle in the second quarter, showing resilience against Fulton’s pressure and heading into halftime within striking distance at 17–15. Throughout the game, Vestaburg’s energy never faded. The Wolverines attacked the paint, played physical defense, and fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor. While turnovers and free throws made the difference on the scoreboard, the effort, hustle, and growth on display stood out. Lily Johnston led the way with 7 points and 3 rebounds, providing steady scoring. Jaiden Anderson delivered a strong all-around performance with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Jessica Stouten was a force on the glass, finishing with 4 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Callie Bills added 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Kaydance Bills contributed 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Iliana Gondek chipped in 3 points and 1 rebound. Despite being short a key piece in the lineup, Vestaburg played unselfish basketball and competed together for four quarters. Performances like this show the Wolverines are heading in the right direction, with their relentless effort and team-first mentality setting the tone for the rest of the season.
