Wolverines Outlast Mustangs in Physical Conference Battle The Vestaburg Wolverines girls basketball team earned a hard-fought victory Tuesday night, holding off the Montabella Mustangs 51-44. With the win, Vestaburg improves to 10–7 on the season. In a game defined by defensive intensity and effort on the glass, Vestaburg relied on strong all-around performances from several players to secure the win. The Wolverines set the tone early with aggressive defense and rebounding, but Montabella kept the contest close throughout, forcing Vestaburg to execute down the stretch. Lily Johnston led all scorers with an outstanding performance, finishing with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Johnston’s ability to score in key moments helped the Wolverines maintain their edge when the Mustangs threatened to take control. Jessica Stouten delivered a dominant all-around effort, recording a double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds, while also contributing 5 assists, 6 steals, and 1 block. Her defensive presence and rebounding played a major role in limiting Montabella’s second-chance opportunities. Vestaburg also received key contributions from Kaydence Bills, who added 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Jaiden Anderson, who chipped in 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals while providing energy on the defensive end. The Wolverines’ defensive pressure and rebounding proved to be the difference in the closing minutes, as Vestaburg made the necessary stops to protect its lead and secure the victory.
