Vestaburg opened its softball season with a competitive showing against Farwell, ultimately falling 8-5 in a game that was cut short due to unsafe field conditions. Under the leadership of head coach Chris Myers, who is coming off back-to-back successful seasons, the Wolverines entered the year with a young and developing roster. Despite the inexperience, Vestaburg came out strong and showed early promise. The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening innings. Kelsie Stowell sparked the offense with a key double, while Emma Myers added an RBI hit to keep the momentum going. Myers later came around to score on a passed ball, giving Vestaburg early control of the game. Farwell responded by battling back to tie the game at 3-3, but Vestaburg answered once again. The Wolverines regained the lead at 5-3, continuing to show resilience and offensive capability. However, Farwell capitalized in the later innings, putting together a five-run surge to take an 8-5 lead. Shortly after, the game was called due to unsafe playing conditions caused by a muddy infield. Kelsie Stowell led Vestaburg at the plate with two hits, highlighting a strong individual performance. While the result didn’t go in their favor, the young Wolverines demonstrated grit, energy, and potential in their season opener. With experience and continued development, Vestaburg looks to build on this performance as the season moves forward.
