Vestaburg baseball opened its season with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Farwell, marking the first varsity game at the helm for head coach Tom Scholer. Although it was his debut as head coach, Scholer is no stranger to the program. After spending several years as an assistant, he has earned the respect of players and the community through his knowledge of the game, steady leadership, and commitment to developing student-athletes. His transition into the head coaching role has been a natural one, and his presence continues to bring consistency and confidence to the Wolverines’ dugout. On the field, Vestaburg showed flashes of strong play, particularly on the mound. Jansen Scholer delivered a solid performance in the season opener, pitching four innings and recording all 12 outs. He allowed just three runs—none of them earned—on only two hits, while striking out six and walking two. His ability to limit damage and keep the team within reach was a key highlight of the game. Offensively, runs were at a premium, but the Wolverines found a way to get on the board. Maddex Koutz showed patience at the plate, drawing a walk and later scoring Vestaburg’s lone run. Jansen Scholer also contributed offensively, leading the team with one hit in two at-bats. While the result didn’t fall in Vestaburg’s favor, the game provided a strong foundation to build on early in the season. With disciplined pitching, emerging leadership, and a coach who understands the program inside and out, the Wolverines are poised to continue improving as the year progresses.
