COLEMAN, MI – The Vestaburg Wolverines opened their conference schedule on Monday with a tough road trip to Coleman, falling in both ends of a doubleheader to a potent Comets offense. While Coleman took the victories 11-0 and 13-2, the Wolverines saw flashes of defensive brilliance and saw several players find their rhythm at the plate in the nightcap. Game 1: Coleman 11, Vestaburg 0 In the opening contest, Jersie Miller took the circle for the Wolverines. Miller battled through the five-inning game, recording 3 strikeouts, but the Comets' hitters proved difficult to contain. Coleman jumped out early, racking up 11 hits and 11 runs. Offensively, Vestaburg struggled to find gaps in the Coleman defense. Kelsey Cole provided the lone hit for the Wolverines, but her biggest contribution came with the leather. Cole electrified the dugout with a spectacular diving catch in the outfield, robbing the Comets of extra bases and highlighting a gritty defensive effort. Game 2: Coleman 13, Vestaburg 2 The Wolverines' bats woke up in the second game, but timely hitting remained elusive. Vestaburg managed to scatter hits throughout the lineup, with Emma Myers, Kelsie Stowell, Jaiden Anderson, Ella Beres, Jersie Miller, and Abagail McNamara all reaching base safely. However, the team struggled to drive those runners home, leaving several stranded in scoring position. Ella Beres showed impressive stamina in the circle, pitching all seven innings and matching the team's Game 1 total with 3 strikeouts. Despite her efforts, the Coleman offense continued its relentless pace to secure the sweep. Defensively, Kelsey Cole remained a standout in the grass. She tracked down several deep flies, making multiple running catches to once again prevent the Comets from extending their lead even further. Up Next: The Wolverines (0-4) will look to bounce back and find their first win of the season as they return home to host Montabella this Friday, April 17, at 4:00 p.m.
